I’m proud to say that my favorite games are mainly shoot-em-ups (i.e. DoDonPachi, Gradius), Asian rhythm games (i.e. Dance Dance Revolution, DJMAX Technika), and Tetris: The Grand Master. I’ll play some PC FPSes here and there, but above all I prefer to dodge bullets and smash dots and arrows.
To people who say that playing all this “crazy impossible Japanese garbage” doesn’t make me a real gamer: Screw you, I’m as much of a gamer as you folks are. I believe that anyone who plays video games—whether it’s the latest console FPS, the aforementioned Japanese arcade games, or even casual games like Angry Birds and Bejeweled—is a gamer. Different kinds of gamers, granted, but all gamers nonetheless.
So don’t feel ashamed because you’re off playing Katamari Fantasy XX-2 Death Label while all your classmates and friends would rather play the usual mainstream stuff. Be proud to be the kind of gamer you are!
